NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN PRIZES. The “Win Your Textbooks" Contest (the “Contest”) is sponsored by the Geoffrey R. Weller Library (“Library”) of 3333 University Way, Prince George, BC, Canada, V2N 4Z9. The Contest is governed by these Official Rules, which are available online at By entering the Contest, each Entrant agrees to these Official Rules, including eligibility requirements, and understands that the results of the Contest are final in all respects. The Contest is subject to all federal, provincial, and local laws and regulations and is void where prohibited by law. The Library, not Facebook, is the sponsor of this Contest. This Contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook.

The P​rize

The Prize is one (1) five-hundred dollar ($500) gift certificate redeemable at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) Bookstore.


To enter the Contest, an Entrant must be a legal resident of Canada (excluding residents of the province of Québec). Employees of the Library and/or UNBC, its affiliated or related companies, and promotional and advertising agencies and administrators, and persons domiciled with such individuals, are eligible to enter. The Library reserves the right to verify the eligibility of the Winner. If the Winner is suspected of fraud, the Library reserves the right to randomly select a new Winner.

Contest Pe​riod

Contest entries will be accepted from 9:00 (PDST) on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 until 15:00 (PDST) on Friday, September 15, 2017 (the “Contest Period”). A winner will be announced on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 15:00 (PDST), following a random draw from amongst all Contest Entrants.


The random winner of the Contest will be notified via a post on the Library's Facebook page and their posting shared with the Library community on Facebook, once the Contest Winner has been deemed eligable to win. The Winner and the Library will make arrangements regarding prize delivery that are suitable to both parties. If necessary, postage costs related to prize delivery will be borne by the Library.

How to Enter

During the Contest Period, the Entrant will enter the Contest online at by i) liking the "Win Your Textbook" Contest post and ii) liking/following the Geoffrey R. Weller Library Facebook page. There is a limit of one (1) entry per person/facebook account permitted during the Contest Period. Duplicate or additional entries will not be accepted. Entrants may not use any other device or artifice to register multiple times or as multiple Entrants. Any person who attempts to enter with multiple facebook accounts or uses any device or software to enter multiple times in violation of these Official Rules will be disqualified and forfeits any and all prizes won, at the Library’s sole discretion. Proof of sending or submission will not be deemed to be proof of receipt by the Library. The Library reserves the right to remove posts, at the discretion of the Library Facebook moderator, including where any such submission, in the Library’s sole discretion, contains any misleading, offensive, derogatory, hateful, negative, obscene, irrelevant, or otherwise inappropriate content submissions/comments. Any Entrant suspected of fraudulently attempting to win the Prize will be disqualified from the Contest, at the sole discretion of the Library.


No substitution or cash equivalent of a prize is permitted; however, the Library reserves the right to substitute any prize with another of equal or greater value. The Winner is not entitled to the difference between the approximate retail value and the actual value of the prize. Other than what is described in these Official Rules, the Winner is responsible for all costs and expenses. All decisions of the Library with respect to any aspect of the Contest, including without limitation the eligibility of entries, are final and binding on all Entrants in all matters as they relate to the Contest.


The Library will not be responsible for lost, late, delayed, destroyed or misdirected posts or any computer errors or malfunctions. No correspondence will be entered into with any non-selected Entrants, except as detailed herein. The Library will not be responsible for incorrect or inaccurate capture of entry information, technical malfunctions, human or technical error, printing errors, lost, delayed or garbled data or transmissions, omission, interruption, deletion, defect or failures of any telephone or computer line or network, computer equipment, software or any combination thereof. Entry materials/data that have been tampered with or altered are void. If for any reason an entry is confirmed to have been erroneously deleted, lost, or otherwise destroyed or corrupted, the Entrant’s sole remedy is another entry in the Contest, provided that the Contest Period has not ended. If for any reason, in the opinion of the Library, in its sole discretion, the Contest is not capable of running as originally planned, or if the administration, security, fairness, integrity or the proper conduct of the Contest is corrupted or adversely affected, including by reason of infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond its control, the Library reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify, amend, extend or suspend the Contest including canceling any method of entry, and to select a Winner from previously received eligible entries. In addition, the Library reserves the right to modify these Official Rules for any of the reasons above. The Library reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual it finds to be acting in violation of these Official Rules or otherwise in a disruptive manner. The Library will not be held responsible for any errors or negligence that may arise or occur in connection with the Contest including any damage to an Entrant’s computer equipment, system, software or any combination thereof, as a result of their participation in the Contest.


By entering the Contest, each Entrant agrees to release and hold harmless the Releasees from any and all liability for any loss, harm, damages, cost or expense arising out of or resulting from, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from the Entrant’s participation in the Contest, participation in any Contest related activity or the acceptance, use or misuse of any prize, including but not limited to costs, injuries, losses related to personal injuries, death, damage to, loss or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation, or portrayal in a false light, or from any and all claims of third parties arising therefrom. THE RELEASEES HEREBY DISCLAIM ANY LIABILITY FOR DAMAGE TO ANY COMPUTER SYSTEM RESULTING FROM ACCESS TO OR THE DOWNLOAD OF INFORMATION OR MATERIALS CONNECTED WITH THE CONTEST. THE ENTRANT ACKNOWLEDGES AND AGREES THAT ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, JUDGMENTS AND AWARDS UNDER THESE OFFICIAL RULES, WILL BE LIMITED TO ACTUAL OUT-OF-POCKET COSTS, BUT IN NO EVENT INCLUDING ATTORNEYS' FEES, DISBURSEMENTS OR COURT COSTS, AND IN NO EVENT WILL ENTRANT BE PERMITTED TO OBTAIN, AND THE RELEASEES BE LIABLE FOR, AWARDS FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, PUNITIVE, INCIDENTAL AND CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE CONTEST.


By entering the Contest, each Entrant consents to the Library using his or her personal information for the purpose of administering the Contest and to publication of the Entrant’s name, image, age and biographical information (if provided by the Entrant) in connection with any Post for the purpose of the Library’s promotion and administration of the Contest. Personal information will not be used by the Library for any other purposes without the Entrant’s consent. The Entrant’s personal information is collected, used, and disclosed by the Library under the authority of section 26(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act of BC and in accordance with UNBC’s privacy policy: Any questions about collection and use of this information should be directed to Shelley McKenzie, Deputy Registrar at 250-960-6310 or Personal Information collected by the Library as part of the Contest may be stored and processed in the United States and any other country in which the Library or its service providers maintain facilities. By entering the Contest, each Entrant consents to the transfer of the Entrant’s information outside of Canada. While in another jurisdiction for processing, the Entrant’s information may be accessed by the courts, law enforcement and national security authorities.

Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of Entrants and the Library in connection with the Contest, will be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of British Columbia and Canada applicable therein, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions. The Entrant agrees that any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of, or connected with, the Contest or any prizes awarded, will be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the courts of the Province of British Columbia.
