Need Copyright Clearance?

The library's copyright office can review your reading lists, custom course packs, handouts, posts to Blackboard and other use of 3rd party copyright materials, arranging permissions, licenses and clearance as required by copyright law.  We also determine whether UNBC has existing licensing for your material, and whether your use falls under statutory Educational Exceptions or Fair Dealing.  Contact us directly, or use this form to submit your copyright clearance request to our office. In most cases, your request will be filled within one business day, but note that in some cases, copyright clearance may take up to six weeks.

Education and Training

Consider attending a Copyright Clinic Drop-in Session, held each Thursday, 11:30 am - 12:30 pm in the Teaching and Learning Building. Room number announced weekly.

Staff of the copyright office will be available to help you with your copyright questions one-on-one. Bring your course lists, websites, questions, or other work you need copyright assistance with. Take-away quick references and UNBC copyright guidelines will be available. This is informal, just come by the clinic when you wish.

We also offer a more in-depth Copyright in the Classroom session approximately once a month.  This session is designed to update staff and faculty on current copyright requirements and guidelines in place at UNBC.  We discuss the changes in the Canadian Copyright Act and how those changes impact your work.  We also provide an overview of "Fair Dealing" and review UNBC's Guidelines that have been put in place to ensure our academic and research community remains copyright-compliant.
