Library COVID-19 Response

In an effort to protect the health and safety of our community, the University of Northern British Columbia has made the decision to provide online library services and close the Geoffrey R. Weller Library building as of March 24, 2020 at 4:30 pm.

We will continue to provide online services and resources as usual. Some services will, however, be altered or curtailed. Please refer to the information below on how services might be affected during this time.

Our Collection

At this time, access to our print collection (including micromaterials, reserves, reference material, and maps) is not available.

While the physical library building may be closed, it may still be possible to access reserves material.

Online access to databases and electronic journal articles, ebooks, and other digitial resources will be available as normal through the library website. Additionally, some publishers have lifted paywalls and technical restrictions during the collective response to Covid-19 to allow researchers to gain access to materials while social distancing or self-isolating. E-resource problems should be reported via the Report a Problem form and will be investigated within one business day.

Holds, Fines, and other Circulation Information

All overdue fees for library materials currently in our users' possession will be waived from March 13, 2020 until the current situation changes. Library materials may be returned after the physical library building re-opens for use. Contact Circulation Services with any inquiries.

Due dates for all currently borrowed items have been extended until 30 June 2020. Due dates will be further extended should the library remain closed at that time.

All equipment loans and Prince George Public Library book returns are currently suspended until further notice. Please visit for more information on PGPL's response to COVID-19.

Research Help

In-person research help is suspended until further notice. All library research help services have moved to our pre-existing virtual channels and will be available from 11:00am to 3:00pm:

Virtual appointments via Blackboard Collaborate are an option for librarian consultation. Please contact your subject librarian directly.

Due to library closures across North America book and physical item requests are no longer accepted. As an alternative, a book chapter can be requested—please adhere to the copyright practice of 10% of the work or one chapter per book title.

Electronic ILL requests (journals articles, ebook chapters, etc.) will continue. As other libraries adjust services, turnaround time and availability will be impacted without notice.

Interlibrary loan books can be returned when the library reopens—fines from March 13 2020 forward will be waived. Please contact for more information.
